I don't usually enjoy listening to contemporary Christian music. I always check the country radio stations in my truck before checking Air 1 or KLUV. What I love about this hymn is, like many of the old hymns, its vivid descriptions that emphasize the need for the gospel and the salvation that comes with it.
"The wrath of God is satisfied" "And as He stands in victory sins curse has lost its grip on me." "No guilt in life, no fear in death, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from His hand."
The first time that I heard this song was the spring of my sophomore year of high school. I had just spent eight months in a tug-of-war with God over control of my life. The verse that I clung to for the whole winter was Romans 8:38:
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
When I heard the last verse of this song I loved it immediately. It added music and emphasis on the realization that I had come to. I am a daughter of God and not even the powers of hell can take me away from Him.
Love this song!
